Estimated Time/Difficulty Level: Beginner-friendly with attention to detail.
Want a unique way to customize your phone that’s both cute and functional? UV resin phone grips (AKA PopSockets) are perfect for beginners. They’re fun, practical, and a great way to dive into resin crafting! RWAtelier UV Resin gives you that crystal-clear shine and fast cure time—just what you need to get started.
What You’ll Need
- RWAtelier UV Resin (clear or tinted)
- UV lamp (24W or higher)
- Silicone molds (round or flat-back)
- Phone grip bases (blank PopSockets)
- Resin pigment, mica powder, or alcohol ink (optional)
- Dried flowers, glitter, foil flakes (optional)
- Mixing cups, toothpicks, stir sticks
- Tweezers
- Sandpaper or nail file
- Glue (UV resin or E6000)
- Nitrile gloves and face mask
- Isopropyl alcohol, paper towels, silicone mat
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Prepare Your Workspace
Lay down a silicone mat or wax paper. Put on gloves and a mask—resin gets sticky!
2. Choose and Clean Your Mold
Select a flat round mold about the size of your grip. Wipe with alcohol to remove dust.
3. Add Decorations
Drop in glitter, dried flowers, or foil flakes. Arrange them with tweezers.
4. Mix and Color the Resin
Pour resin into a cup. Add color and mix slowly to avoid bubbles.
5. Pour into Mold
Carefully pour resin into the mold, stopping just below the rim. Use a toothpick to guide it into tight spots.
6. Pop the Bubbles
Use a lighter or spritz of isopropyl alcohol to pop bubbles.
7. Cure Under UV Light
Cure under a 24W+ UV lamp for 2–5 minutes. Flip and cure again if needed.
8. Demold Gently
Gently remove the piece. If it’s still soft, cure longer.
9. Sand and Topcoat
Smooth edges with a nail file. Optionally add a topcoat of resin and cure again for extra shine.
10. Attach the Grip Base
Glue the resin piece onto the PopSocket base with UV resin or E6000. Let it set firmly.
Tips & Common Mistakes
- Don’t overdo pigment—too much can cause poor curing.
- Seal flowers before use to prevent cloudiness.
- Let bubbles rise for a minute before curing.
- Try stained glass tints, galaxy effects, or pressed flower gardens for style!
